In 2018 Laois Heritage Society undertook a Heritage Audit along the Grand Canal (Barrowline) from Monasterevin to Athy. This 28km stretch of canal runs through County Laois and was open to traffic in 1791. In 2019 we organized a Heritage walk and talk along the canal which included a boat trip provided by Barrowline Cruisers Vicarstown. Later this year we hope to install 3 heritage signs along the canal which has been funded by Waterways Ireland and The Local Authority Waters Programme.
